AOCNC is firmly opposed to AB1634

Are you aware of AB1634? It is the mandatory Spay/Neuter law that recently passed the State Assembly (sponsored by L. Levine -LA area) that is causing a huge uproar amongst dog and cat fanciers. Uproar enough for the AKC to offer their legislative help to defeat it and enough uproar to make AKC take another look at whether they want their AKC Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach, CA in December. Although AOCNC members firmly believe in responsible pet ownership, we think this bill is very poorly written, with tremendous burden on local governments to administer it. The bill misses the target completely. The irresponsible backyard breeders will never get a license under this law and couldn't care less. Even with the current rewrites, the bill is sorely lacking. Organizations in California that originally were backing this legislation, now that they have read the bill and the rewrites, are coming out in opposition to AB1634. Contact your state senator ASAP. Time is of the essence. For a link to your state senators go to www.theanimalcouncil.com. Let them know that they need to go back to the drawing board. Please click here for a link to an opposition letter from our current AOCNC president, Ms. Luane Vidak and click here for an opposition article (The Big Lie) by Dr. Ronald Cole (board member-San Francisco Dog Training Club and past president of AOCNC).
